Brittany's Story

Brittany first injured her ACL in the late 90s, and has since re-injured it twice. This has affected her daily life in many ways, mainly when it comes to her favourite sport skiiing, which she practices competitively. The first time she injured her ACL, she was surprised and frustrated by how long her recovery journey was, and how difficult it was to return to her normal levels of physical activity. In the blog, she says: "I was frustrated I couldn’t ski at the same level as I had been, even though I struggled hard to do so... I wanted to be the exception."

Brittany says something that really helped her during her recovery was advice that she received from her ski coach: her coach said that even though she would return to skiiing in about half a year, she wouldn't be able to ski at her normal level until about a year after her surgery. Though this was quite discouraging for Brittany, her coach told her that the recovery would be a perfect opportunity to focus on her skills and technique that she wouldn't be able to practice otherwise. Brittany took her coach's advice and worked on her technique as she recovered, and before she knew it, she was back to skiing better than ever.
