What is the difference between Arthritis and Osteoarthritis?

Arthritis is the overall term of many conditions including system-wide conditions like rheumatoid arthritis whereas osteoarthritis is very specific to the joint that has sustained some damage. In the world of ACL tears and knee replacement or hip replacement we are primarily concerned about osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis means that there is wear and tear of the cartilage inside of a joint and that is what results in osteoarthritis. That is typically what you see with joint injuries whereas other forms of arthritis can be a system-wide problem where it is an immune system response that damages multiple joints in the body.

Osteoarthritis specifically refers to damage of the joint whereas other types of arthritis may be autoimmune disorders. If you have osteoarthritis, you can use our knee replacement or hip replacement protocols to help you decrease pain and improve your ability to do everyday tasks.
